What the law requires
Germany's Cash Register Security Ordinance (KassenSichV) and § 146a of the Fiscal Code require an electronic till to record every transaction completely and unalterably, secured by a certified technical security device (TSE).
- Every transaction is signed by a certified TSE.
- Every transaction gets a receipt – on paper or digital.
- The data can be handed to the tax authority in the DSFinV-K format.
- If the TSE fails, selling may continue; the outage is documented and noted on the receipt.
What OrderTap already does
The rules that are the same for every TSE are built and tested:
- Records are only appended, never overwritten or deleted.
- An outage of the security device does not stop sales, but it is logged and noted on the receipt.
- Receipts carry the required details and are also available as a QR code.
- Every change is logged with person, device and time.
What is still missing in the beta
The connection to a certified TSE – as a cloud service or a USB stick in the restaurant – is not switched on yet, and neither is the DSFinV-K export.
That means: without a connected TSE, OrderTap may not be used in Germany as the only till for cash sales. As soon as the connection is available it will say so here – and we tell every beta restaurant directly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own TSE?
Once the connection is switched on, you choose between a cloud TSE (subscription, needs internet) and a USB TSE in the restaurant (one-off cost, no internet needed).
What happens if the TSE fails?
Selling continues, as the law allows. The outage is recorded and noted on the receipt.
